Gimre’s Shoes in Astoria, Oregon, is the oldest family-owned shoe store in the Western United States, serving customers since 1892. Postcard copy: This beautiful new bank and office building, dedicated December 8, 1969, already is a landmark in Portland’s downtown core area. The 400,000 square foot structure, 15 stories high, has four below-street levels. Two levels have 212 public car parking spaces. Taken from the rooftop of the former Medical Arts parking lot - and home of Addy’s. Built in 1926. Kiser Studios building (1910) in Portland’s Brooklyn neighborhood operated during the early 20th century and served as a scenic photo and motion picture studio. It’s boarded up. Anyone know its fate/future? The Pacific States Telephone Company building on 1511 SE Holgate. Brooklyn neighborhood, Portland. Built: 1892. Dig those color patterns. As part of a new ongoing series, I’m walking the streets of Portland’s Inner Eastside. First up was a 1909 Mansard-like building that just got a major structural and code overhaul (Hop in bio to read it.) For Lost Oregon, I’m walking parts of Portland’s Central Eastside, from the Willamette to Burnside, down to Division (give or take), to get inspired to write and get to know the neighborhood even better.
