Attention architects, building nerds, local history folks!
The Portland Architectural Collaborative—in partnership with the Architectural Heritage Center and in association with the Architectural Foundation of Oregon—is seeking submissions for a fall exhibit, “City of Possibility: Portland Architectural Models, Past, Present, and Future.”
For decades, Portland maintained a 1:50-scale wooden model of downtown created in conjunction with the 1972 Downtown Plan. When the Portland Design Commission reviewed a proposed building, the meeting began with the architect inserting a scale version of it into the larger downtown model.
The practice ended some years ago. Then the downtown model went into storage.
However, The Portland Architectural Collaborative and Architectural Heritage Center will restore it to be a centerpiece of “City of Possibility” that will also be a showcase and celebration of Portland’s design talent, and an opportunity to reflect on the city that’s been created, is creating, and what the group wants to create.

That’s where you come in.
They’re looking for models and ideas for possible inclusion in the exhibition —and or the “gallery,” they’re considering several options with property owners of empty ground-level spaces in downtown and Central Eastside.
Submission deadline: June 24.
