Originally built in the late 1920s, the Sandy Jug building has had many lives, from its original name called The Gusher—a filling station for “motor cars” that offered a refreshment stand for patrons, then a luncheonette (Orange Blossom Jug) and soda shop, back to a bar, and most recently a strip joint.
The strip club closed last year and it was unclear what would happen to the space. It’s a great example of American roadside architecture and these kinds of structures typically don’t survive.

Enter the team of Warren Boothby and Marcus Archambeault, the duo behind most recently retrofitting Holman’s as well as The Vern, Sandy Hut, the Alibi, Double Barrel, and Gold Dust Meridian.
And now we have The Sandy Jug Tavern, cleaned up and ready to serve. According to PDX Eater:
The tavern will serve fried bar standards alongside burgers and sandwiches, including takes on a cheese-stuffed Jucy Lucy and a chopped cheese. Drinks range from beer to cocktails like the Roseway sour, which is finished with a Dubonnet float.
And a fun side note?
The Sandy Jug baseball/softball team clobbered Tiny’s Tavern in 1956 earning itself a whack with the Twilight Room.
